Compacts - The New Project

One of my new projects at uni. I am in my first year of the course 'Textile Design for Fashion' at Manchester School of Art.
The title of this unit is called 'Collections' so we had to pick something that we had lots of and could easily draw from so what better to choose then . . . . . . . . . . . . . Compacts! I've collected compacts for years, vintage or new. Here are a few snippets of my work so far. First up, research:

Clay Play

A clay project I worked on for my Art A Level at Aquinas Collage, Stockport.
It was all very inspired by the art nouveau movement.

My Art Exhibition

I have just completed my Art Foundation at Manchester School of Art, I got a distinction woo!
Here is the overall jist of my project: I made a big dress constructed from old tatty vintage scarves that i put in tonal order.  Each scarf was dipped in clear wax to stiffen the silky material then cut into a ballon shape and sewn into a gathered puffball. The point of the dress was to transform something old, used and tatty into something beautiful. A massive inspiration was Martin Margiela and his works such as the bow tie dress or his waist coat put together with cream vintage leather gloves. I took pictures of some of my favourite pieces in the show. And the label was filled in by by dad and placed in one of the alphabet map pockets which was somebodys fantastic project.
